They say life is a ‘precious gift’. You only live once and so it must be in the best way possible. With more advanced technology and deeper knowledge, it is no longer an afar-fetched dream to live for more than 100 years. Life expectancy has and continues to increase dramatically across the globe. Just imagine, the average person born in 1960 (the earliest year the United Nations began keeping global data) could expect to live just 52.5 years of age. However, there are many small and often unnoticed steps you must take to ensure you experience the best life. These will help prevent most diseases or problems and help you to remain fit even in your older years.

1. Nutrition

At the grass-root level, one must predominantly consume whole foods, veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, meat, eggs, grains, millets, etc. Processed junk foods might feel good to the tongue, but they are the basic cause of many sufferings. And I am aware of the fact that it’s not ideal to follow this 100% of the time. Having a few cheat meals here and there can actually bust stress and replenish your glycogen stores. It’s recommended to follow the 80-20 rule i.e, 80% of your food choices must be healthy. Furthermore, try to purchase cooking oils high in unsaturated fatty acids rather than saturated/trans fats.

No, I’m not forcing you all to slather on a dozen of products on your face each day. I’m talking about the wrinkles that can appear on your body. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of them can be prevented with simple steps. Firstly, just apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen (preferably a mineral one) onto your face and neck on days whenever the UV ray level touches 3-4. Also, moisturise your face, hands and neck frequently but also your whole body after every shower. These tips should be implemented from your teen years to keep wrinkles away. 

4. Checkups

Almost all illnesses can be prevented (from becoming very damaging) in its early stages. Consequently, one must get a full-body checkup conducted every six months or so. Additionally, you’ll also get notified of nutritional deficiencies and what you can do about them, which always plays an important role. So enjoy your life, make friends, watch movies, play games, laugh out loud, take everything easy and joyfully. After a busy day, it’s also a good idea to take some time to yourself, breathe deeply and relax the muscles of your body. Even your eyes can get tensed up, so provide them with some time to breathe, by refraining from electronic devices and admiring the natural scenery.
