How To Get Rid of Body Acne and Its Dark Spots: 6 Proven and Effective Ways

Is body acne normal? Rest assured that body acne is way more common than it seems to be. And while the zits themselves may not last too long, they can leave stubborn marks behind. When I was 13 years old, I once arbitrarily used a  shower gel from the bathroom. Little did I know, I would wake up to see countless breakouts all over my arms, chest and back. Hard to believe, right! Well, that’s what I get for having unusually sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin. I wish I’d know how to get rid of body acne sooner, which is why I intend to share some tips with anyone else suffering the same fate.
I grew extremely conscious of the dark spots scattered all over my upper body, especially from the age of 15 or so. After several trials and errors, it wasn’t till about 18 months later that the nuisance finally disappeared.
Learn How To Get Rid Of Body Acne Overnight

Basically, there’s a couple of ways you can start to learn how to get rid of body acne overnight. The bigger difference will however be visible within a week or two. It’s important to start early, be consistent and keep patience. Keep trying different solutions until you find ones that work for you.

How To Get Rid Of Body Acne

Tip #1: Protection Is Key

Instead of healing, can you imagine your spots getting more prominent day by day? Yep, that’s true. Acne spots tend to get darker on exposure to ultraviolet radiation. So, make sure you either cover up or apply SPF on your body, prior to going outside.

Physical sunscreens, like those with zinc oxide, are said to be better for dealing with acne. The Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Oxide Dry-Touch Mineral Face Sunscreen Lotion with Broad Spectrum SPF 5o is a recommended product for this purpose, among several others.

Tip #2: Physical Exfoliation

The first remedy that comes to mind for many of us has got to be manual exfoliation. The method scrubs off the skin cells on the upper surface, revealing smoother skin from the inside. Also, exfoliation is great for keeping skin healthy anyways.
Try using a body scrub or make your own at home. You can also use tools, such as a loofah or mitt in combination with your regular body wash. For me, it can’t get any better than the Dove Exfoliating Body Polish Scrub Reveals Visibly Smoother Skin Macadamia and Rice Milk Body Scrub That Nourishes Skin.

Tip #3: Home Remedies

Before venturing into the world of cosmetics, consider using household ingredients. DIY skincare can be as (if not much more) effective. Pastes made with skin-lightening lemon juice, aloe vera, turmeric powder, honey, etc will surely make a difference to the brown spots on your legs over time. Adding things like apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil gives added benefits.

Tip #4: Chemical Peels

Chemical solutions are another method to exfoliate the skin. All you have to do is apply them to the problem areas and wait for the active acids/ enzymes to loosen up the bonds between cells. While people mostly use store-bought versions, baking soda, milk and many other substances do the same.

Tip #5: Prescription Creams

When none of these show any results, you know it’s time to consult a dermatologist. I’d have to say that what worked the most for me, has got to be a 6% glycolic acid topical lotion by far. I used the Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution 240ml, but any good brand should work fine.
However, this isn’t to say that it’ll be a miracle for every person. We all react differently to products, and what suits one doesn’t suit the other. There are many options available, like hydroquinone, retinoid and azelaic acid.

Tip #6: Medical Procedures

For exceptionally severe cases like dark brown spots on back, the only route left becomes expensive treatments. Depending on the type of condition, this can include lasers, microdermabrasion and cryotherapy.

So, keep working hard. In addition to that, it’s important to prevent further acne.
